HELLO, HOW CAN WE HELP YOU?

MASCOTTE PAPER FILTERS

That's right, it concerns the following changes:

  • The filters are now free of plastic
  • The filters are made of paper instead of acetate
  • There is still an adhesive edge on the filters
  • The marking of this adhesive edge is currently missing and will be reapplied soon, as soon as technically possible
  • The bags are now made of recycled plastic
  • As there are no more 'single use plastics' (SUP) in the filters, there is no longer a SUP logo on the bags
  • The bags feature a 'plastic free paper filter' logo

These product changes follow the intentions of European directives on extended producer responsibility and align with Mascotte's corporate objectives.

Yes, the bags are now made of 100% recycled plastic.

No, the white Slim Paper Filters are made using a new technology. In the future, Mascotte Brown XL Slim Filters will also be made using this technology. But unbleached, of course.

No, the paper filter cannot burn. As the filter does not allow oxygen from the side, it will extinguish after 1 or 2 mm.

The packaging with filters made of acetate bears the 'Single Use Plastic' (SUP) logo. This logo does not appear on packaging with paper filters. There is also an additional logo on the packaging with paper filters: ‘Plastic free paper filters’.

The Slim Filters do have an adhesive edge, but it is hard to see. The marking of this adhesive edge is currently missing and will be reapplied soon, as soon as technically possible.

Yes, Mascotte has developed these extra narrow filters made of paper and they will be launched in early May. They are packed in bags made of recycled plastic.

No. Although paper filters are much less harmful to the environment than acetate filters, you should always dispose of used filters in a (pocket) ashtray or in a waste bin and never on the street.

That chance is very high, because the 'polluter pays' principle applies here.

Under the EU Directive EU 2019/904 (the ‘SUP Directive') and the laws and regulations created under it, the use of Single Use Plastics must be ended where possible, and at least reduced. To discourage the use of Single Use Plastic, it was decided, among other things, that producers would be required to pay a fee (compensation) to the Dutch government. This SUP (compensation) fee is used to reduce the environmental impact of Single Use Plastics (through clean-up activities, public campaigns, etc.).

The amount of the SUP (compensation) fee payable by producers and/or first movers is only expected to become clear in the run-up to 1 June 2024. However, the fee has been due since 5 January 2023.

It is therefore likely that the expected SUP (compensation) fee will be factored into trade and consumer prices of plastic filter products in the (near) future.

MASCOTTE PAPER FILTER TUBES

That's right, there has been a modification of the filter:

  • The filters in the tubes are now free of plastic
  • The filters are made of paper instead of acetate
  • The tube paper, the tipping and the recognisable Mascotte 'collar' are also unchanged
  • As there are no more 'single use plastics' (SUP) in the filters, there is no longer a SUP logo on the packaging
  • The packaging features a 'plastic free paper filter' logo
  • The packaging is more firmly glued

These product changes follow the intentions of European directives on extended producer responsibility and align with Mascotte's corporate objectives.

Yes, with the Mascotte Tube Stopper, you can also fill paper filter tubes in a jiffy.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

ROLLING PAPERS

You can keep your papers wherever it's dry (so you can also keep it in your secret drawer).

No, because we want to be just as green as our packaging. That's why our papers are produced without cutting down trees. And talking about green, we use 100% natural Arabic gum and the papers are bleached without the use of chlorine.

Yes, we use gluten-free Arabic gum for the glue line of the papers. We don't want you to worry about any allergic reactions.

Knowing you have enough papers makes for a worry-free day. We understand that, which is why our huge 10-pack is full to the brim with packs. Plus one on the house. So you can be sure that you never run out of papers.

FILTER TUBE INJECTORS

  • Use special tube tobacco. It's drier and finer and doesn't strain the mechanism.
  • Fill the end part opposite the filter with loose tobacco. This packs better.
  • Do NOT use shag; this is meant for hand-rolling only!
  • After use, clean the tube-filling machine properly so that there are no tobacco pieces left over.
  • Use a maximum of 1 gram of tobacco.
  • Let the tobacco dry well and remove any clumps.

If you clean it with some detergent after use, it'll last a lot longer.

Keep your faulty injector until your query has been dealt with; Mascotte may ask you to return the faulty device for quality control purposes and/or as evidence.

It's better not to. The tobacco is more humid and coarse. Use special filter tube injector tobacco, which is drier and more finely cut.
